Introducing Real 3D Anatomy Welcome to Real 3D Anatomy, a collaboration between and the at the University of Bristol. On this site you can currently view two 3D presentations of canine (dog) anatomy in your browser. The main presentation is a complete 3D dog bone set. We've also included a demonstration of work in progress that shows the main organs of the dog thorax. You don't need any special plugins, just a Flash enabled browser. Each presentation has been optimised for web delivery so you don't need a particularly fast internet connection although you may need to wait for a minute or two to view each model.

Credits and History The project was conceived when the University of Bristol expressed an interest in building realistic 3D models for e-learning purposes. What makes this project unique is that the anatomical 3D models were created using high quality detailed photgraphs of real specimens from a single animal † - resulting in photorealistic 3D models rather than 'cartoon-style' computer graphics more commonly found elsewhere. Creative Dimension Software Ltd (CDSL) were asked to construct the 3D models from photos using their 3DSOM Pro technology (see ). The photographs were taken onsite by the Bristol Anatomy team and then processed by CDSL to create 3D models and the final 3D presentation (complete with hotspots, links and overlays). † All material used to provide these presentations was sourced from animals euthanased, with consent, for medical reasons and not specifically for this project.
